Who are we?

Chief Executive Officer: Judi O'Leary

Previous to becoming CEO of SHINE Multi Academy Trust, Judi was an experienced Headteacher - working in two different local authorities during her time leading Birklands Primary School in Warsop, then Whitemoor Academy in Nottingham City. Additionally, she worked as a leadership consultant at Riverside Primary School and, before that, was employed by Nottinghamshire Local Authority as part of their school improvement team. On both occasions, she was asked to support settings in an Ofsted category due to her successful track record of moving schools to a 'good' rating within a year, as a result of the highly effective school improvement programmes which she implemented.

 

Finance & Business Director: Sarah Brown

Before joining SHINE Multi Academy Trust, Sarah was a School Business Manager in an inner-city primary school, which then converted to academy status. Prior to this, she worked for Nottingham City Council within the schools finance team - helping many schools across this local authority with their financial accounting. She started her career at an independent accountants, then moved to Ruschliffe Borough Council, where she became a qualified member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (MAAT).

 

Curriculum Director: Pete Bevington

Pete is responsible for the development of curriculum and professional learning for SHINE Multi Academy Trust. His role is to ensure that staff are equipped to deliver high-quality teaching and learning - facilitated through training, INSET and 1:1 coaching. During his ten years of working in Nottingham City schools, Pete led all eleven Foundation Subjects - gaining local and national recognition for his curriculum design, which is now used to improve the curriculum offer in all the SHINE schools. This experience also allowed him to build a range of partnerships, both in business and education, including regular lecturing at Nottingham Trent University. Pete has a BA (Hons) degree in Primary Education, an NPQ in Senior Leadership, is a trained Arts Award adviser and has been a governor across primary and secondary settings. Additionally, he co-ordinates a PE Network of over 30 schools , is a member of the Operations Group for ChalleNGe (a Cultural Education Partnership) and is currently Chair of Nottingham Schools’ Football Association.

 

HR and Marketing Director: Lauren Cartwright

Before joining SHINE Multi Academy Trust, Lauren worked for Whitemoor Academy within their school office team. Lauren helps deliver the HR function for the Trust - working on staffing, recruitment and retention, payroll, change management and compliance. Lauren is also the Data Protection Officer for SHINE and organises the Trust-wide events, as well as being responsible for developing partnerships with external agencies.

 

Clerk to the Board and Company Secretary: Helena Brooks

As clerk to the board and company secretary for SHINE Multi Academy Trust, Helena’s role within the central team is to co-ordinate meetings and issue documentation between the members, the board of trustees, and the academies within the SHINE. As governance lead, complaints co-ordinator, admissions lead and policy adviser, Helena ensures compliance within SHINE and provides advice and assistance as the first point of contact for these areas. As company secretary Helena also ensures legal and regulatory compliance within the Trust. Helena has a BA Business Management degree, a background in business management within the public and private sectors and over 15 years’ experience of leading governance across all stages of education from EYFS through to post 16.
